Ann Barnum began work at The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, a nonprofit health grantmaker, in February 1999. She works with organizations throughout the foundation’s 20-county service area to develop innovative programs that deal with substance use disorders. She is responsible for working with grant applicants and grant recipients, following projects from concept to completion.

For 15 years prior to joining the Foundation, Ann worked for Transitions Inc., a Northern Kentucky-based agency that provides alcohol and drug treatment, and offender rehabilitation. Ann served for four years as Transition Inc.’s Associate Executive Director for Development. She also previously served as Treatment Coordinator and Program Director of the agency’s Droege House residential facility for men and women, and as Associate Director of Treatment Services, with responsibilities that included overseeing outpatient services and development of new programs for women and children.

In 1998, Ann received the annual state award from the Kentucky Coalition for Women’s Substance Abuse Services for Individual Service in developing and implementing new programs.

Ann began her career as a mental health social service worker in Jonesboro, AR, followed by four years as outpatient therapist and clinic coordinator for the county mental health center in Vinita, OK.

Ann, who is a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor and a licensed independent social worker in Ohio, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The University of the South, in Sewanee, TN, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati. She is the past chair of the Addiction Recovery Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio and is a past board member of Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church, a national addiction advocacy and educational organization. She is a founder of First Step Home, a women’s residential treatment program, and past President of the Board of Directors for that organization.
