Results

Lead poisoning is the number one environmental disease effecting children. Lead poisoning affects brain development in children, leaving them prone to educational frustrations, juvenile delinquency, and an inability to participate fully as working adults. CLEARCorps' approach to combat this 100% preventable childhood disease is community awareness and low-cost lead reduction techniques in housing.
The program recruits 10 AmeriCorps members annually, who are trained and certified to deliver training and perform lead reduction in area housing. Corpsmembers understand the mission of service and become proficient at training and lead reduction. Adults who receive training will identify an action they will take to reduce childhood lead poisoning, and children under six are protected from lead hazards in housing. The CLEARCorps team will:
