| Results | This planning project was awarded to IKRON, a Rehabilitation and Mental Health Center since 1969. The project addressed vocational evaluation services for people with disabilities residing in eight counties in Southwest Ohio. The project began in May 2000 and completed its findings in December 2000. A planning committee of leaders, providers, and consumers was organized representing the eight counties. The goal of the study was to assess current vocational rehabilitation evaluation systems for persons with disabling conditions (mental illness, substance abuse, physical limitations, mental retardation). The committee developed a questionnaire and a survey. Returns (nearly 60%) of the completed questionnaires and surveys represented 72 agencies, 8 counties, 122 consumers, and 178 professionals or staff. Response to some items on the questionnaire and survey suggest that consumers and professionals perceive consumer needs differently. In addition, it became evident early on that consumers and professionals from rural and urban areas have different needs and opinions. In order for consumers to live up to their maximum potential, these perceptions need to be addressed cooperatively and worked through by consumers and professionals. |
