Results In the fall of 2001, Kentucky Child Now (KCN) launched a project to develop a visionary and unified health plan for Kentucky children--from infancy through adolescence. This plan would build upon gains made in related areas, including the Governor’s KIDS Now Initiative and the Department of Public Health’s Healthy Kentuckians 2010.

KCN convened a leadership team and five work groups composed of over 40 child health experts from across the commonwealth to identify and set measurable goals and outline necessary steps and key partners toward their achievement. This public-private collaborative addressed the needs of children in five categories:

  • prenatal/preschool,
  • school-age,
  • adolescent,
  • access to healthcare, and
  • children with special needs.

In the spring of 2002, Kentucky Child Now will release a report, "Blueprint for Healthy Kids," that will outline a five-year plan to improve the health and well-being of Kentucky children. It will also begin to lay the groundwork for the implementation of the plan.
