The Health Foundation Awards More than $150k
to Three Local Organizations in First Quarter
2005 grants total $1.6 million to date

Cincinnati— June 14, 2005—The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati has awarded $168,050 in grants to organizations throughout its 20-county service area. Beneficiaries include non-profits in three of the Health Foundation's four focus areas: Strengthening Primary Care Providers to the Poor; School-Based Child Health Interventions; and Substance Abuse.

"These three grants are among the $1.6 million the Health Foundation has awarded so far in 2005," said Donald Hoffman, president and CEO. "The Health Foundation is pleased to help improve access to healthcare."

The Health Foundation awarded grants to:
  • $74,750 to American Project Access Network and Leadership Access Network to develop a regional primary access care initiative for low-income and uninsured persons in southeastern Indiana (Contact: Suzanne Landis at 828-274-9820)
  • $58,300 to New Housing Opportunities Inc. to provide housing for individuals with substance use disorders and their families in three suburban and rural Ohio counties (Contact: Jodi Carter at 513-925-3403)
  • $35,000 to University of Kentucky Research Foundation to increase enrollment of eligible Northern Kentucky children in KCHIP and Medic (Contact: Julia Costich at 859-257-5678, ext. 82026)

The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati is an independent foundation dedicated to improving community health and access to health care for vulnerable populations. The Foundation awards grants to non-profit and governmental organizations for selected health programs and activities in Cincinnati and 20 surrounding counties in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. In 2004, the Health Foundation invested $10.5 million to support local health care programs that address the objectives of the Foundation's four focus areas and general community health.
