The Health Foundation Awards Nearly $600K
to Local Organizations in Second Quarter
2005 grants total more than $3 million to date
Cincinnati July 19, 2005In the second quarter, the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati awarded nearly $600,000 in grants to organizations throughout its 20-county service area. Beneficiaries include non-profits in all four of the Health Foundation’s focus areas: Strengthening Primary Care Providers to the Poor; School-Based Child Health Interventions; Severe Mental Illness; and Substance Abuse.
“The grants we awarded in the second quarter have allowed us to broaden our reach in our continued efforts to improve access to healthcare,” said Donald Hoffman, president and CEO. “In addition to these latest grants, the Health Foundation awarded nearly $800,000 earlier in the second quarter, bringing our year-to-date total to almost $3 million.”
The Health Foundation most recently awarded grants to:
- $278,000 to Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) to implement an evidence-based practice known as Supported Employment which helps people with mental illnesses find and keep employment. (Contact: Joe Stephens at 812-537-1302)
- $226,413 to Transitional Living, Inc. to implement an evidence-based practiced known as Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) for people with co-occurring mental illnesses and substance-use disorders (Contact: Mary Ann Price at 513-863-6383)
- $56,300 to Central Clinic to provide recovery-oriented services to consumers with mental illness through Illness Management and Recovery, an evidence-based practice (Contact: Nelly Rimini at 513-558-3792)
- $20,000 to Every Child Succeeds to develop curriculum for the Every Child Succeeds’ Home Visitation Model (Contact: Judith B. Van Ginkel, Ph. D. at 513-636-2830)
- $15,000 to FreeStore/FoodBank as a challenge grant in which the Health Foundation matches $1 for every $2.50 raised for the Freestore/FoodBank’s program that provides health and hygiene products to non-profits for free distribution to low-income clients (Contact: John Young at 513-482-3722)

Cincinnati
is an independent foundation dedicated to improving community health and access to health care for vulnerable populations. The Foundation awards grants to non-profit and governmental organizations for selected health programs and activities in Cincinnati and 20 surrounding counties in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. In 2004, the Health Foundation invested $10.5 million to support local health care programs that address the objectives of the Foundation's four focus areas and general community health.
