About the Events

Securing the Future

Securing the Future is an annual Greater Cincinnati program that builds nonprofit resource development skills. Dr. Ruby Payne is the breakfast keynote speaker that will give a brief overview of her book Bridges Out of Poverty. Carol Weisman is the lunch keynote speaker author of Raising Charitable Children.

Frameworks of Understanding Poverty

This half-day session will help people understand and learn how to work with children from poverty. It is an overview and refresher workshop based on A Framework for Understanding Poverty, normally a two-day workshop. Participants will learn how poverty and the culture of poverty can affect classroom behavior, achievement, and environment.

Bridges Out of Poverty

Bridges Out of Poverty, a one-day seminar, offers a chance to learn more about poverty and the culture of poverty. Topics include increasing awareness of the differences in economic cultures, how those differences affect opportunities for success, and how to develop an action plan to improve services. This seminar is based on the book Bridges Out Of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities, a collaboration between Ruby K. Payne, Philip DeVol, and Terie Dreussi Smith. This seminar is designed for educators, health care and social service providers, employers, community organizations, law enforcement, counselors, and other people who work with children and families in poverty.
